I am also a victim of this unethical maybe illegal pratice of Chase. I had a low 3.99 promotional rate. Never a late payment, over limit problem etc. Yet without notice chase INCREASED THE MONTHLY INSATLLMENT FROM $354.00 to $ 885.00. Addtionally they also added a $10.00 service fee. The only way to avoid this bait and switch was to accept their offer of 7.99 which is my standard purchase rate anyway. Of course I declined their offer and later that day wrote a check in full to end this unpleasant relationship and to close the account. Imagine my surprise to receive a letter stating that I had accepted their offer to change rate, even though a taped conversation proves otherwise. This situation has left a bad taste in my mouth for card companies in general, they are all implementing negative policies in one form or another. It would behoove all consumers to remember this treatment by banks and make a supreme effort to become a cash and carry consumer. This is a credit card crisis in the making for consumers and ultimatly will strangle the banks, may they choke on their own unethical policies.
