On 11/28, my son applied for a Chase Student Loan on our home computer and he asked me to cosign. I entered all my information, soc sec, salary, etc. The form asked if I would like online statements. I said yes, because my son would be making the payments on this, since I'm the cosigner, if he doesn't make one, I wanted to know about it.

Meanwhile, my car loan has been with Chase since 2005 and I've had a credit card since 2002. I just had transferred a balance to the credit card in July to consolidate some other balances. It was supposed to be 2.99% for the life of the loan - I have excellent credit.

The car payments are automatically deducted, but I failed to notice that I didn't receive a statement in January or February for the credit card, until I got a letter stating that I hadn't paid for 2 months. I went back through my file and I never received statements. I called Chase and they said I requested online statements on 11/28. I advised that I never requested online statements, only for the student loan that I cosigned for. They said that meant for all my loans with Chase, not just that one. They never sent me any letter or anything advising the other 2 loans would be online only. They did send me emails, which I still have. When I click on the link in the email, it goes directly to the student loan, so nothing seemed out of the ordinary or put up any red flags for me to know that I was supposed to search for my credit card statement on there when it was not listed.

They charged me over $175.00 in interest and penalties for missing those payments. Even though they agree that it was a misunderstanding. They said I should know when my bills are due, yet the due date keeps changing on the credit card, so how would I have known without receiving anything from them? I feel they shouldn't have put a cookie on my computer going to my son's student loan account and not have the other ones listed.

I transferred the balance from the Chase card to another card minus about $150.00, and I told them to cancel the card and remove my name from their advertising lists. I have excellent credit so I really am disgusted that they won't even split the difference with me or anything, and I really don't feel this was my error. They should have notified me of the change to the other accounts.

What are my options - besides paying their back alley loan shark fees for what I feel is their mistake?
