Subject: Chase Credit Card Rip Off
Comment:
I too have joined the ranks of the wronged in Chase's ploy to charge an unwarranted $10.00 a month Trasaction Fee/Service Charge. That should buy their rip off artists quite a nice vacation what with all the people they are stealing from. When I first noticed the charge in February, I immediately called Chase and was told that a supervisor would call me back in 24 to 48 hours. NOT! I called them back again and was told that under no uncertain terms would they drop the charge. Their reason? Seems in November, they say they mailed me an ammended card member agreement stating they would begin doing this in January which I guess they did, I just didn't catch it. My side of the story is, I never saw or read anything since I am in the process of paying off and closing all of my credit card accounts. They were next on my list. Anything that comes to my house from a credit card company is garbaged without reading or even opening for the most part. I had no reason to read all this crap. I can't even read all the necessary material I have to read. When I first put this balance on my card over two years ago, it was a promotional 4.99% fixed rate for the life of the balance. I had no reason to believe that they would not keep their end of the agreement. I have not been late or gone over my credit limit. Furthermore, when I mentioned to the wench on the other end of the phone that the $10.00 charge had more than doubled my effective percentage rate and that the $10.00 charge was at least a 125% increase on my interest rate, she said that was not true. She said that I still had my 4.99% interest rate but that this $10.00 was a new charge that started in January and that they had notified me by mail as required by law back in November 2008. She said they had no intention of dropping it. So my response was that if it is true that my percentage rate has not increased and all this is on the up and up then why does my bill plainly state in bold writing the following: Effective Annual Percentage Rate (APR): 12.34% ? These people are liars and thieves and are hurting innocent people and their credit worthiness! They are no less than EVIL! I wrote them a letter, not that it helped, they didn't even acknowledge. I told them that if you are going to rob someone, just because you put a gun to their back and warn them that in two minutes you are going to rob them, it doesn't make it right or legal. It's still robbery is it not? So just because they sent a letter stating that shortly they would begin to abuse their authority and their customers by charging some bogus fee, is not a license to defraud and ultimately extort funds from unsuspecting customers. YES! I AM STEAMED TO SAY THE LEAST! Is there any real help or recourse out there? I'm looking for it!
